From Booklist

The business statistics are astounding: high percentages of detached, ready-to-exit employees; soon-to-occur vacancies among top executive and middle-manager ranks; and a growing chasm between employees and the organizations they work for. From Gallup to corporate human resources gurus, myriad solutions have been proposed. Yet Kelly, consultant and author (The Rhythm of Life, 1999; The Seven Levels of Intimacy, 2005, among others), proffers an idea that seems simple to implement. His philosophy is that organizations can only become best versions of themselves if their employees can realize that same opportunity. Center stage is the Dream Manager, an individual (or group) devoted to helping workers achieve personal life goals. His fictional parable plays out the story of Admiral Janitorial Services, a cleaning company plagued with extraordinarily high turnover. Presto digito! Within months of hiring a Dream Manager, employees stayed. Profits increased—and customers clamored for information. It is true that the pursuit of dreams "creates passion, energy, enthusiasm, and vitality." It is also true that, without solid proof, few businesses will explore this avenue. Jacobs, Barbara

This book arrived yesterday, I read everything from the Forward to the Acknowledgements today. I don't read many books. Honestly, I can't remember the last book I read and finished including other books by Matthew Kelly. This was the right book at the right time for me. I am an Ambassador for Matthew Kelly's Dynamic Catholic, but my husband and I don't and can't give much. I do read some of parts of the books DC mails us, but often am too busy or disengaged to finish. In August 2018, our lives were turned upside down. Roughly two years prior, we had uprooted our lives, sold our house, and moved away from both sides of our family to pursue a dream: to own and operate our own farm. In short, the current owners lied to us about many things and in many ways showed they didn't care about us or our supposed shared dream of the farm passing to us in a land contract deal four years from now. We had so many dreams for the farm and the oversized farm house and appartment we wanted to fill with foster/adoptive children and chrisis pregnancy home seekers. Such big dreams! But we talked often, drempt often, and made lots of plans. By the end of our stay on the farm, we were having to re-evaluate our dreams more than once a month. Putting plans on hold and trying to manuver everything we could to keep the farm in the black despite the current owners continued very poor financial decisions. We found ourselves at a point of basically being slaves to the owners' insatiable desire for more without the support of more hired help or more efficient equipment to sustain such desires for more.We left the farm and our dreams were crushed.Buying a farm takes a lot more money than what a couple in their 20s and 30s can amass. This appeared to be the only farming opportunity we may get, and it was a rare one. My husband doesn't want to dream because he says it will do no good anyways, our great dreams have always come to an end in some way from house flipping, to having lots of biological children, to owning our own farm. I bought this book because I read some articles late one night after yet another fight that mentioned dreams and had a link to this book. I bought it from Amazon because I could get a used one for half the price of new. I only just read it but I know this book will bring big changes to my life and has already made a difference in my outlook and morale. it has the 12 part list to dreaming and pursuing dreams that was mentioned in the article which is what I hoped it would have. I know my husband may not read it, but if my attitude changes and can be bolstered, it will have a far-reaching effect on him too. What are your dreams? Read this book and start chasing your dreams (again).Note: on first glance after receiving the book, I thought, "oh no, I've bought the wrong book! This looks like it is all about dreams for a business perspective! Shoot!" And then I thought, well, we do hope to own a business again and my daughter is home sick today so I have time....why not? Best book I have read in a long time! It's in 2 parts more or less. I had to force myself to read the second section which is only about 50 of the overall 150 pages. It's wonderful too! The first half gets you excited about dreaming, the second half addresses reality. Excellent book for our dream crash aftermath. Thank you Matthew Kelly and Team!

What a gem of a book. It will take you about an hour to read but it can change the destiny or course of your life. And I don't say that lightly.I have bought over a dozen copies and have started to give them away.Or at least, I've shared the story herein with as many people as possible.Read it. Share it. And Live it.Stop leading your life of "quiet desperation"I love the fact that it's based on a true story.

It is so fun to find a book that completely aligns with my views of positivity transforming business. If business owners can have the courage to connect with employees as this powerful little book recommends, the state of our economy will grow exponentially, and the workforce will experience the American Dream along with the owners and managers. Your staff will surprise you and you will surprise yourself! The couple of hours it takes you to read this book cover-to-cover will be one of the best investments you will have ever made... That is, assuming you then start diving into your dreams and the dreams of those around you!

The Dream Manager spoke volumes to me. I am going through a transitional period in my life where I left my job after nearly nine years because I felt extremely disengaged, not empowered and resentful. When Matthew Kelly wrote "It is easy to get so caught up in surviving that we stop dreaming. When we stop dreaming, we slowly begin to disengage from our work, from our relationships, and from life itself.", I couldn't have agreed more! What this book has taught me is the power of dreaming and to hold myself accountable. In the time since I have left my job, I have traveled the world and volunteer at an organization whose mission I truly believe in. I surrounded myself with dreamers who inspire each and every day. This book is a great read for every one, not just managers dealing with a disengaged workforce, but parents, teachers, and employees of all levels. Before I left my job, I had a former manager tell me, "Don't ever be apologetic for your career." What I believe he meant by that was not to short change myself or my dreams.

This book was recommended to me by someone I worked with. I read it and had some of my friends read it. Although it is set in a work setting, I ended up getting a group of 3 people together to go over the program. We developed our 100 dreams and broke them down into categories and then into short and long term goals. We each ended up picking 2 that we wanted to work on immediately. We met once a month to discuss out goals and we all gave each other advice on resources available that could help us. Although we each were able to meet the goals we prioritized, our group fell apart after about 9 months, mostly due to distance. I am still using my Dream Book and setting my priorities. A new year is starting and my goal is to review my dreams, update them and start working on the most important ones right away. I purchased a few copies of The Dream Manager and have loaned them to friends and co-workers. One neighbor loved it so much, she bought copies of it for all 5 of her grown children. I think this book needs to be read regularly to keep your motivation going. It would be great if companies would use this technique more often. I think there would be happier employees and less turnover.
