Stephan Van Dam, AIGA is an award-winning cartographer, graphic designer, and information architect. He is the president, principal and creative director of New York-based VanDam Publishing. Twenty-seven of his maps are in the MoMA Collection. The universal power of maps has been his guiding passion for the past 35 years. He's has mapped over 125 world cities, and holds several patents in the field of paper engineering and origami map folding. His work has been honored by the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA), the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), the editors of ID magazine and has been featured on national television and been sighted in numerous feature films. Van Dam presented his 4DmApp at the original TED Conference in 2002.

The map mainly covered Manhattan, and the subway lines did not go out very far. If you were going to be anywhere but Manhattan it was not very useful.
This map was very helpful during my recent trip to NYC. It allowed me to plot my daily travels, and it was a great reference for the subway. Plus it was small enough that I could look at it inconspicuously while exploring the city. I still used apps on my phone to help me estimate travel times, but I was glad I had this map as resource.
Perfect for getting around NYC for the first time! Quality material, doesn't bend or tear. Very easy to read and mark. Great product and price.
It has helped me enormously with my sense of direction and navigating Manhattan. The map is detailed and gives you a breakdown of Manhattan but stops at 127th Street and fails to include the whole of Harlem and Washington Heights. Still a good map for the price and is convenient to carry.
The best NYC travel companion. An invaluable supplement to smartphone apps and such. I can just never go anywhere without an old fashioned map. Includes subway map for familiarization before/during trip. Durable, laminated and easy to fold.
In the age of smart phones, you'd think you don't need a map like this. But if you are a total NEWBIE to the city, you have no idea how far apart things are or how to plan your subway travel. I relied on this and found it to be durable, accurate and a must-have for tourists who want to see it all.
